Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has dismissed reports that the government has directed Jubilee legislators not to speak to media unless they have been given orders from above.
Speaking during an interview with a local radio station(Radio Maisha) on Wednesday,Lusaka said President Uhuru Kenyatta respects the law and he can not advocate such move aimed at interfering with MPs' and Senators' freedom of expression.
Additionally, he said that the reports are only aimed to taint the image of Jubilee regime and should be condemned in the strongest terms possible.
The former Bungoma County Governor noted that the leaders have full mandate of talking to press regarding Constituency and National issues without any restrictions.
"They were elected for the purpose of serving their respective constituencies.Nobody can take away their right to communicate their ideas to the media," said Lusaka.
His sentiments were echoed by Kiambu Senator Kimani wa Matangi who said that the President never issued such directive during the meeting of Jubilee legislators a week ago in Statehouse as claimed.
On Tuesday this week, reports emerged that Jubilee MPs and Senators' have been barred from attending to intervies either on Televisions or Radio stations unless with a permission from Majority leaders of the Senate and National Assembly.
The government is said to have delegated the responsibility of interacting with the media to County Commissioners who were to be the Government's Chief communication agents at the grassoot level.
