The speaker of the senate Kenneth Lusaka has called upon the heads of different committees in the senate to promote bipartisanship and soften their hard line party stands.
Speaking in Mombasa during an induction of workshop for the senate liaison committee on Friday, he called upon chairperson of to provide good leadership in order to strengthen their oversight role.
“It is imperative that, as Chairpersons of Committees, we strive to carry out our responsibilities in a bipartisan manner, upholding fundamentals of ethical leadership and a sense of diligence.
“That is a sure way of ensuring that our committees generate quality legislative business and analyses for debate in the plenary. It shall also allow us to maintain the high esteem that our Senate committees are regarded,” Lusaka told the 16 chairpersons.
The Clerk of the Senate, Jeremiah Nyegenye Speaking during the workshop urged the chairpersons to build capacity in order to enhance effeciency.
“Build the capacity of Chairs of Committees in management of your committees and give insight into the legislative opportunities available to them,” Nyagenye said which was the aim of the two day workshop.
The workshop is the first in a series of workshops that are to be held by the senate.
