Female Senators in the 12th Parliament has been urged to dedicate themselves to discharging their duties just like their male counterparts.

Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka told the women lawmakers to rise to the occasion and take the front row seat in the betterment of the country.

"If you don't speak up, if you don't fight on, someone else will try to speak and fight on your behalf which risks the danger of misrepresenting you. Remember your electorate will reappraise you in four years time. Please do not disappoint them, stay committed and work to leave a lasting legacy for our country," he said, as quoted by Capital News.

Speaking on Monday during a one-day induction retreat for women Senators, Lusaka challenged them to be on the forefront in the passage of laws that will bring change in the society.

"Your election and nomination enhance the quest of not only promoting gender equality but rectifying the imbalances of history," the Speaker added.

He further assured the 21 Senators that he will offer the necessary support to help them discharge their duties effectively.
