Five M-PESA fraudsters were on Saturday morning arrested by the police in Maralal town.
The five were attempting to escape in a Toyota Axion registered to KCG 429N from CID officers.
“They have been conning M-PESA operators in Maralal town for two months now,” said Samburu County Police commander Francis Kumut.
The five are part of a syndicate from Nakuru whose members pretended they are Safaricom workers added he added.
“They have stolen from over 15 M-PESA shops in Maralal, the Five robbed Ksh52, 000 on Friday and it is estimated they have robbed over Ksh500, 000 from the shops,” said Kumut.
They have been taken to Maralal police station and they will be charged once the investigations are over.
Aisha Akiru an M-PESA agent who lost Ksh70, 000 to the thieves begged the police to let them teach the thieves a lesson.
