A statement from the Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) which runs the platform in conjunction with Safaricom said that the system had experienced a technical hitch which they managed to resolve late on Monday.
“We have since resolved the technical issues and the M-shwari customers are now able to transact normally,” CBA Chief Executive Isaac Awuondo said in the statement.
He said that they regretted the hitch and they worked closely with all the relevant stakeholders in resolving the technical challenge that locked out customers seeking to apply for loans, and or pay their due debts for the better part of Christmas Day.
“As we worked to restore the services, we worked closely with all our stakeholders who were informed of the remedial actions taken. We deeply regret the inconvenience to our customers during the festive season,” the statement from CBA continues.
On Sunday at around 1140hrs an attempt to transact on the platform returned a message that M-shwari was under maintenance, an indication that the problem might have started earlier.
