Farah Maalim has accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of lacking goodwill for the people of Garissa.

According to The Star, Maalim, through his lawyers said that the electoral commission has been frustrating him in the bid to have National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale’s win nullified.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, his lawyer Alexander Mucheru, has not allowed them access the ballot papers used in the last general election despite having been ordered by the court following the filing of the petition challenging Duale’s win.

The lawyer also said that the actions of the commission are likely to cost his client the victory that he deserves.

Maalim argues that the results of the parliamentary seat do not reflect the will of the people of Garissa, and he wants them nullified for a fresh election.

“We came on time and notified the IEBC as required, but when we arrived today, officials at the Garissa IEBC office claimed that SD cards were taken to Nairobi IEBC headquarters contrary to what we were told that the kits were in Garissa,” Mucheru said, as quoted by the Local Daily.

He further said that the commission has misdirected the Kenyan court, adding that they will be compelled to seek for redress of the matter with immediate effect.
