Mr Maalim said that he is confident that he will beat incumbent Aden Duale because of his promises to the Garissa residents.

He said if he gets elected in the August polls he will improve the lives of Garissa residents in all sectors such as health, education, agriculture and security.

“I will prioritize education, unemployment especially among the youth, and capacity building for untapped potential among women when elected,” said Mr Maalim as quoted by KNA.

Mr Maalim said with NASA administration improving security in North Eastern and the possibility of Al-Shabaab being eliminated, he will reopen all border points with war torn Somalia.

The Garissa Township MP hopeful said that the re-opening of the border points was long overdue since the government was losing millions of shillings in revenue since some of the goods enter the country illegally.

“This will allow the free movement of citizens, goods and services that will translate in better trade and development of the region that has been neglected by subsequent regimes.”

“The NASA administration will engage the Somali federal government administration with the aim of stabilizing the country so that it can promote a peaceful and democratic state that would better the lives of its people,” he said.
