Farah Maalim's parliamentary race for the Garissa Township constituency now lies n the balance, and he might miss out in the race if he fails to tender his resignation notice as a Wajir County employee on time.
On November 1 this year, Wajir County government issued a memo to all county employees who were interested in running for various elective seats to tender in their resignation notice by close of business on November 9, a date that is now overdue.
Among the county employees that were expected to submit the notice is Maalim, who serves as the chief advisor in governance and economic issues.
However, by close of business on Friday November 11, not even a single county employee had tendered in notice of resignation, including Maalim.
If he now fails to submit to the stipulated deadlines, he may be left out, giving the incumbent Duale added advantage in the race.
However, not all is lost for the parliamentary hopeful, since the Elections Act of 2011 requires that a public servant intending to run for any elective post in a General Election should resign at least six months prior to the election date.
This, therefore, implies that all public officials are to resign from their offices by February 9, 2017.
