Garissa parliamentary hopeful Farah Maalim has urged the government to punish criminals not on religion or tribal affiliation.
Making the statement via his twitter handle, Maalim revealed that innocent Muslims have suffered at the hands of state security systems in the fight against Al-shabaab militias.
"We need to respect due judicial processes. We should talk of a great Kenyan society that shows respect to the existing laws. Judicial systems should punish criminals not on religious or tribal lines," he said.
The vocal politician also expressed worry that every time an innocent Muslim is executed by the state, the Al-Shabaab insurgents become more happy since the act confirms their gospel of victimization, thus recruit more followers.
Making reference to Mungiki and Alshabaab fighters, Maalim noted that Kikuyu tribes should never be associated with the former, and neither should the Kenyan Somalis be associated with the latter, Al-shabaabs.
