Garissa Township MP candidate Farah Maalim has launched a scathing attack on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto over the fight against Al Shabaab militia. Maalim, who is contesting for the Garissa Township seat, said that Jubilee government has not been committed to the fight to flush out suspected terrorists from the country.

He said that the state has been applying what he considers as unorthodox means in the quest to smoke out the suspected terrorists from their hideouts.“Instead of pursuing terror suspects whenever they commit a crime, the security machinery rounds up innocent youths and tortures them in the name of fighting terror. You can’t maintain law and order by subjecting your people to torture,” he said, as quoted by Star. 

The vocal politician expressed concern over the recent imposition of curfews in Lamu, Garissa and Tana .

He said that the government must learn to respect the law before imposing any directive on the people of this nation, adding that the nation is governed by democracy.

“Kenya is a democratic state. The rule of law is paramount. The law comes first and then order follows,” he added.
