Maalim who has been shortlisted for the senate job says that he has the experience to run senate affairs as speaker.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, the Wiper deputy party leader said he is ready to battle out with others who have also been shortlisted for the position.
“I have the experience to run the senate affairs and I am confidence of trouncing rivals who are eyeing the same seat,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
Maalim indicated that he will conduct his duties with decorum if he picked as the next senate speaker.
The former National Assembly deputy speaker who unsuccessfully contested for the Garissa Township Parliamentary seat in the recently concluded general said he has the desire to continue serving Kenyans.
Maalim is among seven people who have been shortlisted for the senate speaker position.
Others are immediate senate speaker EKwe Ethuro, former Bungoma senator Kenneth Lusaka, Paul Gichuke, Ramesh Candra, James Gesami and Wilfred Machage
According to the senate clerk Jeremiah Nyegye, 21 applications were received for the speaker position by close of business Tuesday.
He said that only seven were shortlisted for the seat.
Maalim is seeking to revive his political future after the loss in the recently conclude polls. Political analyst says that Maalim cannot be written off and that he holds a stake in Garissa and the lager North Eastern politics.
