Former Parliament Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim will launch a door-to-door campaign as he seeks to popularize his candidature for the Garissa Township MP seat.
Maalim, who is expected to vie for the seat on a Wiper Party ticket has vowed to nuetralize Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale's political power in the far-flung constituency during the August 8 general elections.
His campaign will involve individual household visits aimed at directly engaging the electorate on what problems they face.
Maalim has continuously accused Duale of spending too much time in Nairobi instead of helping Garissa constituents improve their livelihoods.
The ODM party leader Raila Odinga's ally and Duale are the primary runners for the seat of MP in Garissa Township.
While Duale is riding on what he terms his 'good development record' to seek for re-election, Maalim is principally banking on the non-Somali vote to beat the fire-spitting Duale.
Garissa has a sizable number of non-Somali-speaking communities who mainly support the opposition.
Late 2016, Maalim accused Duale of planning to evict non-Somalis from Garissa county for fear that their support to him may propel Maalim to Parliament.
Duale rubbished the claims saying they emanated from his political opponents out to taint his name ahead of the elections.
