There is a looming disagreement in the opposition CORD on who should be crowned as the coalition's flag bearer for the presidency come 2017. The opposition politics has now taken a new twist after Farah Maalim, a close associate of Raila Odinga urged him to step aside in favour for another candidate come the 2017 elections.
In an article in one of the local dailies, Maalim penned down an opinion piece stating that it is time the former PM an ODM leader to consider supporting another presidential candidate since he believes the fear that the Jubilee government has for him will eventually lead to the rigging of elections.
“Two consecutive times in the last elections, Raila's victory has been stolen. Going by the way things are shaping up in the country, I can see something similar is being worked out if Raila goes on to the ballot for a third time,” Maalim wrote.
The Garissa politician further says that despite Odinga being the most favourite presidential candidate in the opposition, the exigencies of time calls for the opposition to opt for the second-best aspirant to rescue the country from all the ongoing malaise.
