Garissa Township Parliamentary seat aspirant Farah Maalim has cautioned locals against accepting ‘handouts’ from politician’s eyeing elective seats in the August 8 polls.
Addressing supporters in Garissa Town on Thursday, Maalim claims that some aspirants are dishing out ‘handouts’ to locals in exchange for votes.
The former National Assembly deputy speaker alleges that selfish politicians are using money and other material goods to woo locals support.
Maalim says that it is against the electoral laws for politicians to dish out money and wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take action against politicians engaging in election malpractices
The Garissa Parliamentary aspirant urged locals to shun selfish politicians saying that they will abandon them once elected.
“These people will give you money in exchange for votes but you (locals) will never see them once they are elected,” he said on Thursday as quoted by the people Daily.
Maalim urged locals to elect leaders basing on their ability to serve and deliver on development.
The MP hopeful further asked locals to thoroughly vet politicians seeking elective seats before electing them.
“Some aspirants have no agenda for the common people and only want to enrich themselves once elected,” Maalim added.
He urged locals to back his bid promising to push for equality in resource distribution across the county. Maalim also pledged to create employment and push for laws that will tame youth radicalization if elected as MP.
The former deputy speaker is seeking to unseat the incumbent Aden Duale who he accuses of failing to push for local’s interests and rights.
