Former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim wants police officers who allegedly shot and killed NASA protesters in last week’s anti-IEBC protests to be sacked, arrested and arraigned in court.

Maalim also wants the Independent Oversight Police Authority (IPOA) and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to take disciplinary action against police officers who are allegedly harassing and intimidating peaceful demonstrators in the ongoing NASA's daily  anti-IEBC protests.

Speaking on NTV’s AM Live Show on Monday, Maalim also asked Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to resign claiming that the IG is unable   to control the police force.

Maalim alleged that NASA supporters have been killed, injured and maimed in their daily peaceful anti-IEBC demos.

“IG Boinnet must explain to Kenyans why police officers are allegedly killing and maiming innocent peaceful protesters who are agitating for electoral reforms,” he said on Monday.

The former National assembly deputy speaker said that police have no right to use excessive force on peaceful demonstrators.

The former National deputy speaker revealed that NASA will sue the IG  and individual  police  officers for the alleged killing and injuries allegedly inflicted on NASA protesters.

“We are finalizing our report and we will be moving to court to have criminal proceedings against the police for the alleged killings of peaceful protesters,” he said.

Maalim at the same time said that NASA’s anti-IEBC protests are legal adding that no amount of police intimidation will stop them from pushing for electoral reforms.
