Former National Assembly deputy speaker Farah Maalim has warned President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto against plotting to rig the forthcoming general polls.
Maalim, who spoke during an exclusive interview on NTV, said that the National Super Alliance (NASA) will have no choice but to declare Cord leader Raila Amolo Odinga the head of State if the upcoming general polls are not conducted in a free and fair manner as promised by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) when that time comes. The legislator, who has joined the race to dethrone National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale from power, has insisted that the leaders of the opposition are well-prepared to lead this nation to the right direction, adding that they will not take rigging lying low as the ruling party is thinking as we head to the polls. Maalim’s remarks come after NASA named Raila the opposition’s flag bearer. Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula had also expressed interest in the nation’s top seat ahead of the August general polls.Meanwhile, leaders from Ukambani have opposed the Raila-Kalonzo lineup as we head to the polls. Under the stewardship of National Assembly Minority leader Francis Nyenze, the leaders insisted that the Kamba community has been given raw deal.
