Speaking during the donation Maangi said Kisii County government is committed in ensuring farmers get access to basic and necessary financial help to motivate them in their agricultural activities.

“Agriculture is the key pillar in our development strategy of the economy. Farmers need to be motivated so that they can improve on production hence high yields. The number of tea farmers is increasing each day and we urge more residents to venture into farming to create self-employment,” said Maangi.

He assured the growers that the County will push KTDA to pay them good bonuses this year.

“We are not going to rest this time around and allow KTDA to pay farmers peanuts as bonuses. Farmers should earn good profits from their sweat by getting good bonuses this year unlike last year where cartels influenced KTDA to pay farmers peanuts,” he noted.

Maangi urged Nyamiobo Tea Buying Center officials to ensure the centre is expanded to serve the increased number of farmers who have ventured into tea growing.

“Sand and the cement should be used appropriately to expand the facility to serve the increased number of tea farmers who bring their tea leaves to be taken to various factories,” said Maangi.
