Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has officially ditched Orange Democratic Movement for Jubilee Party citing lacks of internal democracy.
Mr Maangi is one of the 13 leaders who were summoned by ODM disciplinary team to explain their public association with the Jubilee Party.
Speaking on Sunday at Nyacheki, Maangi said he had ditched the party and insisted that he was keen to see the region working closely with the national government.
“Parties should embrace democratic space because it makes us grow. You cannot stay in the past that doesn’t embrace divergent opinions from members. That changes from democracy to autocracy and it isn’t good for young democracies,” he said.
"I have officially quit and I am joining the Jubilee Party where we are easily accommodated and wanted. The ODM party is using draconian rules which are unacceptable and unwanted. This is my time to leave,” said Mr Maangi who understandably attended JP launching last month.
Prior to his resignation, Maangi has been serving as ODM Kisii County Organising Secretary before showing interests of working with the Jubilee Party several months ago. He is also a close ally of DP William Ruto.
