The project is being sponsored by the Aga Khan University and the Kisii County Government.

Speaking on Wednesday when he laid a foundation stone for the construction of maternal newborn and child facilities, Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said the new ward will help expectant mothers and newborn babies to get improved medical services at the facility.

“Unnecessary deaths which occur when women give birth will be a past tense because the new ward will be equipped with necessary equipment to help nurses ensure delivering of babies is successful at the facility,” said Maangi.

The Deputy Governor added that women should visit the facility when they are pregnant with guidance and counselling.

“Pregnant women are advised to visit the hospital anytime for medical check-ups to ensure the unborn is safe before delivery so that in case of any complications the medics can advise accordingly,” stated Maangi.
