According to Maangi, Kisii County is facing serious environmental and water supply challenges hence need to conserve the environment.

“Unnecessary cutting of trees should be stopped using all means possible. Kenya Wildlife officers should arrest anyone founds felling down trees without legal permission from authorities for the sake of protecting our forests,” he said.

He urged residents to plant more trees in their farms to conserve the environment.

“I am urging Kisii residents to plant trees during this rainy season and uproot blue gum trees near water catchment areas as they have caused the drying up of our rivers,” said Maangi.

The Deputy Governor stated that officers attached to forests should not spare anyone found cutting trees in forests.

“Illegal logging is punishable by law. Forest officers should arrest anyone they spot felling down trees in forests without permission to help in protecting the environment,” he added.
