Deputy governors will use the ongoing Devolution Conference to push for a clear definition of their roles, insists Chair of Deputy Governor’s Council Joash Maangi.
Article 180 of the constitution doesn’t define clearly the roles of the Deputy governors, a reason why they are determined to have their voice heard.
Speaking from Meru, Mr Maangi expressed his desires to have a ‘fruitful’ discussion saying it will minimise future conflicts between themselves and governors.
“We have been undergoing difficulties in the execution of our mandate because our roles are not clearly defined in the constitution. This is why we want to use this conference as a platform to have our voice heard,” he said.
“As a team, we have lobbied enough and we look forward to having a fruitful discussion over the same. This will minimise conflicts between us and our bosses for a smooth running of county units,” Maangi added.
He challenged Senate, Governors and Ministry of devolution to be flexible during the discussion from which they expect a precedence to be set.
"My team isn’t doing this for our own good. What we need is setting a precedence to avoid future conflicts," said Maangi.
"We have seen how unclear definition of roles has brought upon strained in our working relationship with a number of governors in some counties,” added Maangi.
He added that he was determined to have a positive response from Senators and Governors attending the summit.
