Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has asked the police to arrest anyone spotted working at a quarrying site during this rainy season.
Maangi said residents who are workers at quarries across the County should keep off the areas until the rains disappear.
"No quarrying activity should be allowed to take place in Kisii County. Police should arrest anyone they spot at the sites because we don't want unnecessary deaths to occur as it has been the norm," said Maangi.
Maangi said several people have lost their lives at quarrying sites in the past while working especially during rainy season.
He urged quarry workers to keep off dangerous quarrying sites until rains reduce.
"Workers should look for alternative jobs to keep them busy as they wait for the rains to disappear for them to resume work so that to curb unnecessary deaths which may occur when the weak soil at quarrying and mining areas collapse," said Maangi.
He urged parents to escort their children to school and pick them in the evening to prevent them from being swept away by floods.
