Ruto and Sang were facing charges in crimes against humanity following the Post-election violence of 2007/08 in which close to 1300 died while thousands were displaced.

Maangi, a close ally of the DP said the decision was long overdue and maintained that Ruto was not ‘capable’ of financing crimes against fellow Kenyans given his strong religious background.

“I want to welcome the ICC’s decision to vindicate the two because all along I have been saying that it went for wrong people. The decision was long overdue but thank God it has finally been made,” he said during a Wednesday’s interview.

“I have known Ruto since our days in Campus and I don’t think he would do such inhuman things to fellow Kenyans," said Maangi.

"It was a lie by his political opponents who wanted to bring him down. They are now free so let’s now join hands and promote peace,” Maangi added.

He however challenged the government to embark on the process of compensating IDP’s from Gusii community who reportedly haven’t benefited from the government’s scheme of compensation.

“We still have people who were displaced from their homes and lost properties during the mayhem," said Maangi.

"They are living in abject poverty and time has come for the government to be fair and compensate them,” he said.
