Makueni MP Dan Maanzo has urged MPs from both sides of the divide to allow the joint Senate and National Assembly committee to discuss the amendments proposed by Jubilee team to the election law.
Jubilee MPs have been pushing for amendment that will allow an alternative to electronic voting, a move which hasn’t gone well with the opposition.
In an interview with KTN on Wednesday, Maanzo said the committee should be trusted to handle the controversial clauses before re-submitting them to parliament.
“I don’t see the reason why we can fight yet we know the right team to handle the matter. Senators James Orengo and Kiraitu Murungi should handle the matter,” he said.
“We cannot allow instances where some MPs want to use back door to shortchange us. The law is very clear that a law cannot be recommitted to parliament before six months elapses,” Maanzo added.
Speaker Justin Muturi has yet again summoned MPs for another special sitting on Thursday after the chaotic scenarios that marred parliament on Tuesday.
