The Maasai community living in Nakuru County wants settlers who have grabbed over 100, 000 hectares of Mau forest to be evicted with immediate effect.
The group presented their views to the National Land Commission (NLC) task force in Nakuru on Thursday evening.
They claimed that the forest is a source of water to over six rivers supplying water to the entire East Africa.
Speaking in Narok on Thursday evening, the Maasai elders said that if the settlers will not be evicted millions of people will be affected.
Moses Olesieku, a Maasai elder said the forest must be protected by all means to save it from encroachment.
He called upon the government to evict those who have already entered the forest illegally.
"The forest must be protected as it serves millions of people across east Africa, the occupants must be evicted with I immediate effect to save the water tower," said Olesieku.
Alfred Torbor an environmentalist and a member of Maasai elders community, said if the government will not take action on the matter the forest will be cleared within a short period of time.
He said that almost all major towns across east Africa depend the forest as its source of water.
"If the government will not take action immediately the forest will be cleared within short period of time," said Torbor.
