Maasai herders have been warned against holding protests in Nairobi on Monday.
The herders are said to be planning to drive their cows to IG Joseph Boinnet’s office in protest of killing of cows in Laikipia a week ago.
Addressing the press on Sunday, Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome said police had not been informed of any protests by the herders.
“Are there ranches in Nairobi? Wherever they are coming from I will deal with them. Let them go where ranches are. I have not been notified about any people planning to demonstrate with cattle. Let them bring meat to the people of Nairobi but not cattle,” said Koome.
A section of leaders from the Maa Community are said to lead the herders into the city over the alleged killing of 300 cows.
Herders claim that over 300 heads of cattle were shot dead while police maintain only 75 of them were killed.
