The Commission of Revenue Allocation (CRA) has rewarded 18 counties, Machakos being among them, with Sh6.3 billion to share during the 2018/2019 financial year for maintaining financial discipline.
Speaking during the ongoing third County revenue enhancement and automation conference in Kwale, CRA chairperson Jane Kiringi made the announcement and said that the counties should use the money for more development and growth.
"The money given to the counties is a reward and the counties are expected to use it for further growth and development of the counties," she said.
Lamu county will benefit from the most of the funds as it will get Sh1.2 billion from the fiscal responsibility parameter along other counties which include Mombasa, Machakos, Samburu, Bomet, Kilifi, Kericho, Turkana, Masarbit, Siaya, Embu, Nyandarua, Kisumu, Baringo, Makueni, Meru, Bungoma, and Nandi.
Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua received the news with joy and said that all he wants is to pull the people of Machakos from politics of poverty and give them a better life.
"It's time to work hard for our people and help them in all ways we can and assist them to win over poverty. We have no time to play politics of backwardness. It is time to move forward," Governor Mutua said.
Alfred Mutua has been named as the top performing governor severally.
