Commercial and Residential buildings owners are in risk of jail and penalties from the Energy Regulatory commission (ERC) commencing this week for not installing solar water heater panels.

"We have reached a point whereby we have to start enforcing regulations, commencing this month we have launched an a program to map out any new developments," said Energy Regulatory Commision boss Pavel Oimeke

Solar Water Heating regulations of 2012 state that real estate property owners and developers whose property uses more than 100 litres of hot water on the daily should install power- saving solar heating panels. “ERC will commence combing out construction sites like Machakos with a view of enforcing the rules,” added Oimeke.

“We want to physically go on the ground to inspect whether developers architectural drawings have included the solar heating systems, “he concluded.
