As mass voter registration starts this week, officials of IEBC have vowed to keep an eye on Machakos and other counties that can be affected by incidents of importing voters.

According to reports by the Sunday Nation, some politicians are ready to finance the transportation of voters from different parts of the nation and across the borders to secure various elective posts come August.

Speaking during a stakeholder’s forum, The Commission’s Upper Eastern coordinator, Mr Liban Mohamed alleged that the number of transferred voters is higher those registered.

“We are concerned that the number of voters who transfer to other wards, constituencies and regions is higher than the newly registered voters,” said Mohammed, as quoted by Nation.

On his part, IEBC Chief executive, Mr Ezra Chiloba asked Kenyans to avoid politicians who are out to use them in order to rise to power.

According to Chiloba, such politicians are only after satisfying their interests. “Kenyans must be cautious of politicians out to misuse them for their selfish gains. Such tendencies take away their freedom of choice,” he said.

Other counties put on spot include Murang’a, Kiambu, Kajiado, Narok, Mer, Bomet, Busia, Nairobi, Bungoma, Siaya and Kakamega.
