The motion was tabled by Ekalakala MCA Stephen Mwanthi who said Mutua didn't serve the assembly with his appeal notice at the Supreme Court in a bid to challenge the Court of Appeal's verdict.

"The purpose of this motion is to put clear on the matters of the county following the nullification of Alfred Mutua as the governor, we are seeking to have the speaker assume the office of the governor in a bid to ensure there's no vacuum in the leadership," Mwanthi said.

The motion caused a heated debate with NASA MCA's Supporting the motion while those allied to Maendeleo Chap chap party fiercely opposed it.

However, the assembly's speaker in her speech said the matter raises both legal and constitutional issues which require proper interpretation of the law.

Mwangangi said she will first consult on its implication and communicate to the assembly on the matter.

However, Mutua addressing the press in Machakos town said the MCAs supporting the motion had been 'paid' by his political nemesis to oust him.

Mutua said he won't be moved and will stop at nothing to ensure he delivers to Machakos county.

"If they think they will stop me, they have just given me psych to continue serving my people," Mutua said.
