The opposition National Super alliance (NASA) on Wednesday evening received a major boost after the County Assembly of Machakos passed the controversial Peoples Assembly Motion. The house which is dominated by members drawn from opposition affiliates parties passed the motion after weeks of legal consultation regarding the pending injunction by Kitui based high court.“Whether then Court order bars the County assembly from debating the Motion, the answer is that by reading of the order it does not bar the assembly as per say from debating and subsequent passing the motion’ said Speaker Florence Mwangangi amidst cheers from the members on the floor of the house. The house majority leader Francis Ngunga took stage to table the motion which was fiercely opposed by the minority wing led by Tala ward representative Alex Kamitu.“This house resolves that its membership will participate in proceedings the people’s assembly and will constitute a special college for appointment or election of members, delegation and observance of the people’s assembly," said Ngunga. This followed a split of the house after minority members walked out in protest citing bias leadership of the house.Machakos now becomes the 17th county assembly to adopt the motion even as the opposition sent mixed reaction on Raila Odinga’s swearing in plan by reserving 11 venues in a bid to scuttle trail by the security forces in a event that is set for Tuesday day next week.
