Speaker of the Machakos assembly Florence Mwangangi has announced the house’s plan to rollout ‘Bunge Mashinani’ in a bid of promoting public participation in the county.
Mwangangi said the initiative is intended to take information and services closer to the Machakos County residents in all the wards.
She said the rollout is in line with the Machakos County Public Participation Act passed by the assembly in 2014.
“The Machakos County Assembly intends to rollout Bunge Mashinani in the near future. We saw the need to take information and services closer to ‘wananchi’ in line with the spirit of devolution since some of the wards are far from the assembly and Machakos County Government headquarters,” Mwangangi said.
Mwangangi addressed a press briefing at a hotel in Machakos town on Tuesday.
She said the assembly had been at the forefront in pushing for meaningful development in the county.
Mwangangi said the assembly had reached out to the county’s executive for mutual cooperation between the two institutions.
“We want to work with the executive in line with the law so that the residents get served effectively. If residents are consulted prudently and effectively, then the county can get to great heights of development. This has never been the case to date,” Mwangangi added.
She said the assembly will engage the highest gear to ensure ‘wananchi’ get services that they deserve.
Mwangangi said the assembly will take advantage of the ‘Bunge mashinani’ initiative to articulate to residents issues including bills passed at the assembly which directly affect them.
“The assembly has passed bills to ban forests destruction and sand harvesting in the county, it has also passed a motion proposing to address rampant gambling and chewing of ‘miraa’ both which have swallowed our youths and adults. Residents have to understand assembly’s operations and the sense of such bills and motions,” she concluded.
