National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) lower Eastern Region coordinator Joseph Muindi wants the government to beef up security across the country.

Speaking at Machakos town when he met NCCK members on Monday, Muindi said that streamlining security should be the first responsibility of the government.

He observed that recent security scares from criminals and terror groups should be a concern for the government.

The NCCK coordinator noted that the government has a responsibility to secure its citizens and must do it well.

“The government should move first and take charge of the security situation in the country,” he said.

The church official also urged the government to put in place more measures that will end insecurity.

Muindi on the same note lauded the government for adequately funding the security docket in the 2015-2016 budget.

He said that the funds, if well utilised, will help curb rising terror and criminal threats.

The coordinator urged religious leaders to support the government quest to end crime.

He said that religious leaders must play their roles by condemning radicalisation and other unlawful acts.

The church official also cautioned youths against being lured into joining criminal and terror organisations.
