Bishop Timothy Ndambuki of Chawango Africa Baptist Church in Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County, has opposed the new church regulations that were put in place by the government.
Speaking on Sunday at the church, Bishop Ndambuki said that the new rules were against the freedom of worship.
“It is good to follow rules and regulations but let the government leave space for freedom of worship in Kenya,” said Ndambuki.
The bishop further called upon the Parliament to drop the new regulations, saying that they contravene the constitution of Kenya.
However, Evangelist James Muli of Zions church in Kithimani Location, said he fully supported the new regulations.
"The time has come to correct the ways of people who take advantage of the spiritually needy. Some pastors extort money from both the poor and rich in return for miracles,” said Muli.
He termed the regulations as a brave move that will tame rogue pastors.
This comes after the Attorney General Githu Muigai announced the regulations that are set to streamline televangelists who perform miracles in exchange for money.
The rules have since elicited different reactions from religious leaders with most of them opposing the move.
