Machakos County Assembly has ousted the house's leader of majority Francis Ngunga.
Ngunga was removed from the position by majority of MCAs at the assembly on Tuesday.
This is after the assembly's majority whip Tariq Mulatya, wrote to the speaker on behalf of the majority wanting Ngunga relinquished from his position for lack of trust in his leadership.
Speaking at the assembly, the speaker Florence Mwangangi said she had earlier received a similar letter from one individual member which she rejected since it didn't follow the right procedure.
Afterwards, the right procedure was followed where the majority whip wrote and submitted the letter to the speaker for approval.
"A member elected as the majority leader can be removed, the letter I have read to you and the attachment has to take effect. The speaker has no option," Mwangangi said.
Addressing the press outside the assembly after ousting Ngunga, Majority whip Tariq Mulatya said Ngunga was ousted from his position is because there are ongoing assembly projects to build a chamber and MCA's offices where they were complaining that the majority leader had overtaken the projects.
"Ngunga had taken over the County Assembly's Service Board whereas he is the majority leader, the MCA's thought he had vested interests in the projects," Mulatya said.
However, Ngunga threatened to move to court to stop his ousting claiming the due procedure had not been followed.
Ngunga's position was taken over by Kinanie MCA Mark Muendo.
