Machakos County is among the counties that have failed to pay workers salaries and foot other bills for four months now.

According to the Business Daily Newspaper, by Friday,  Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua was complaining that it had become impossible to pay county workers,  contractors and purchase other essential goods such as hospital medicine yet the government is supposed to disburse funds by 15th of every month.

"We are struggling to pay salaries and to buy essential products such as drugs for our hospitals," Governor Mutua said as quoted by the Business Daily.

In addition,  Dr.  Mutua said that they had sent out a memo to staff urging for their patience until when the county will receive cash.

"In Machakos we have issued a memo to employees advising them that we had no idea as to when they will receive their salaries, and development projects have come to a screeching halt," he added.

However,  the Acting Director of Intergovernmental Fiscal Relations at the Treasury, Albert Mwenda said that the delay is as a result of an error in the arrangement of revenue allocation.

"Senate did approve a disbursement schedule but unfortunately it was not aligned to the County Allocation Of Revenue Bill," Mwende said.

He added that the error Willie be corrected in either one or two weeks from now.

"I think in the next one week or two that should be done," he said.
