Machakos County Government has agreed to take care of a baby boy who is said to have been abandoned by his parent at Machakos town over the weekend.
The incident of a baby dumped near Chariot hotel in Machakos on Saturday attracted the attention of the local residents. The locals took the baby and then handed him over to the Machakos hospital management.
To the surprise of the residents, the baby was left behind with a Kiswahili note from a person who is claimed to be the mother. “Please whoever is willing, take this baby. He was born on 24/8/2016. I did not want to kill him because I am poor and I cannot manage to keep him. His name is Emmanuel and I wish him God’s blessings and a good future,” read the message.
It also noted that the child was not infected with HIV/AIDS or suffering from any health related complication. Machakos county government told the residents that it will take care of the child until he attains the right age of being taken to the childrens’ home or adopted by anyone who will find it necessary.
Speaking to residents, County Executive Member (CEC) for Health Naomi Mutie confirmed that the child is in good health and he has been taken to Machakos hospital.
Many well-wishers have presented the baby with gifts and others promised to support the county government in raising the child.
