Machakos County Government has been accused of delaying funds meant to help the vulnerable in the society and instead prioritizing the projects that do not help the residents at the grassroots level.
Speaking on Friday in Nguluni location three members of county assembly, Magdalene Ndawa (Matungulu West), Justus Katumo (nominated representing the disabled) and Festus Ndeto (Kola) accused the governor of failing to issue disabled with enough funds.
Ndawa said that Kenya Constitution 2010 supports disabled, the youth, old people and women in the county to be given a special fund.
“Our county government did not consider priority while allocating funds to various projects. It has also not allocated money to the marginalized groups,” said Ndawa.
Ndawa said that the county has allocated Sh100,000 to sniffer dogs and Sh500,000 to their food at the expense of important project like water which residents are in dire need of.
Justus Katumo, nominated member representing the physically challenged lamented that the people he was chosen to represent have been been betrayed by the county government.
Katumo condemned misuse of public funds in the county government noting that residents at grass root level are most affected by fund embezzlement.
His counterpart, Festus Ndeto said that the county government had not paid its workers despite collection of taxes through NHIF, NSSF and different other venues.
“The county government is yet to pay its employees,” said Ndeto
Most Machakos residents have complained of water shortage problem and insufficient drugs in the county's public hospitals.
