Ken Auma, the county health chief officer stated that the drugs will be distributed to the 132 centres and dispensaries. Kangundo Level Four Hospital is set to receive the largest allocation of Sh3.6 million worth of drugs.

This is the third consignment that MEDS has supplied this year since the county had bought other drugs in February and April.

MEDS managing director Paschal Manyuru, while releasing the consignment, said that more than 30 counties have bought quality drugs worth more than Sh1 billion from the regional faith-based organisation since the beginning of the year.

Auma assured that they will carefully monitor the distribution of the drugs and medical supplies to make sure they reach their destined beneficiaries as the county works towards improving service delivery in public health facilities.

The drugs have been acquired through the public-private partnership referred to as MEDS-County Governments Partnership Initiative.

Just recently, MEDS acquired new machinery to help fight against counterfeit drugs.

Machakos County has been hitting the headlines as it has made great strides in the health sector. The county has procured 70 ambulances aimed at improving emergency response from about one hour to ten minutes as all locations are catered for.

The county government also renovated 40 hospitals last month according to county health executive Naomi Muite.
