Girls from 320 schools in Machakos county are set to benefit from free sanitary pads.
The launch was flagged off today by the women representative Dr Susan Musyoka and the first batch was distributed to Machakos ward and subsequently all other wards in the coming days.
Some of the schools that benefited today are; Machakos primary, Baptist Primary, Kathayooni primary, Muthini primary, Mwanyani primary school and Kwa Kavoo primary.
Speaking at the launch Dr Susan said that girl child empowerment is a matter dear to her heart and as the elected representative she will use her position to empower them.The program is funded by the Affirmative action social development fund among other sponsors.
The office of the women representative also toured Machakos prison last month were donations of various items such as sanitary pads was done.
The move aims at reducing girl child absenteeism and creating awareness.
