Machakos county assembly will be holding rotational sittings in all its 40 wards.In an interview with the media on Wednesday, the County Assembly Speaker, Florence Mwangangi said the move was meant to educate and familiarize members of the public with the roles and the operations of the devolved unit.Mwangangi also called on members of the public to attend public participation sessions held in the sub counties.She promised that public input from those sessions will be taken seriously and given due consideration before key decisions on governance are made.The speaker challenged members of the public to visit the county assembly to understand how they operate.Mwangangi said roles of the county assemblies include legislation, representation of the people and oversight of the county executive.The speaker challenged residents to fully participate in the assembly’s legislative process, by giving their input to ensure the laws made were favorable to them.Mwangangi suggested that sittings be held in church halls or schools, and be opened for all people to familiarize themselves with what goes on during assembly proceedings.
