A High Court sitting in Machakos has today mentioned the filed petition by Dr. Tatu Kamau pleading that female genital mutilation (FGM) be legalized
The case which was filed in August 2017 is appearing before justice David Kemei and is challenging the law that was passed by the parliament barring women circumcision.
In her case, Kamau argues that all women aged above 18 years should be allowed to undergo the cut.
With Equality Now Organization being the first to object her in court, they have been enjoined by other interested 12 parties who are against the cut.
During the mention on Thursday, Justice Kemei said since the case is of great public interest, any interested party could be enjoined at any point of the proceedings.
However, Kamau complained that interested parties were becoming too many for her to handle.
Former Meru Woman Representative Florance Kajuju who is appearing for one of the respondents together with her Machakos former Woman Representative Susan Musyoka said they can not seat back and see the law overturned legalizing the cut.
