Anyone caught disposing of waste in undesignated areas in Machakos County will face the full force of the law, the County government announced on Wednesday.
Deputy Governor, Francis Maliti said laws prohibiting pollution and environmental degradation will be enforced to the latter in a bid to maintain clean and habitable environment by residents.
Eng Maliti, who addressed the press after overseeing garbage collection in Machakos town, also urged residents to be in the forefront in observing hygienic disposal of waste in order to curb diseases associated with accumulation of solid waste.
“As a government, we remain committed to ensuring all garbage is collected and disposed of safely and timely and we urge the public to support us by doing what is right to ensure we keep Machakos environmentally friendly,” said the deputy county boss.
Maliti said the county government will distribute high capacity litter bins across all major urban centers and fast-track disposal process to avoid accumulation of garbage at collection points.
