Days after calling for the prosecution of leaders whose followers engage in violence, Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua is at it again.
This time, he has cautioned Cord not to use Sunday's prayer rally as a guise to export violence to Machakos.
Addressing the press on Friday welcomed Cord to visit Machakos for their planned prayer meeting.
Mr Mutua however, warned against causing violence: “We will not entertain any violence in our peaceful Machakos. We are peacemakers and ask the organisers of the prayers and their followers to come in peace and not destroy property.”
He further cautioned that the rapid response unit and the 500 functioning CCTV cameras will be on standby to protect the property and lives of the people of Machakos.
“We will not allow hooliganism to hurt even one hair of a Machakos girl," he said.
The governor also asked residents of Machakos County and the entire Ukambani region to pray for those coming for the Cord prayers so that they will desist from spewing hate speech and engaging in violence.
Part of the measures that the county government has put in place according to the governor is erecting road blocks to ensure that those who will be coming to Machakos are not carrying weapons.
