An assistant chief who was on Thursday ejected from a public meeting by residents for being drunk and disorderly will retire in two months time from now, says Athi River deputy county commissioner Geoffrey Omoding.

Omoding said John Matheka of Ngelani Sub location who was dragged out of the meeting held outside his offices at Ngelani in Mavoko, Machakos County will retire in April 2018.

He said Matheka had attained the retirement age hence no need for his dismissal from service.

The administrator said his office had summoned the chief to explain his ‘misconduct’ and defend himself on complaints raised by Ngelani residents.

He spoke to this writer at his office in Athi River on Tuesday.

Omoding said the chief will be issued two months leave as he awaits his retirement time to elapse.

He added that plans were underway to appoint an acting assistant chief in the area.

Omoding said recruitment process for the position will start immediately the assistant chief retires.

 “We will announce the position of Ngelani assistant chief vacant once the incumbent retires, due process of filling the position will then start as dictated by the law,” said Omoding.

The assistant chief came into limelight after he stormed a meeting convened by Muthwani MCA George King’ori and shouted him down during his address to the public.

Angry residents swiftly held him and frog-marched him out of the meeting as he kept shouting.

The residents condemned the chief’s conduct and demanded his immediate sacking.

They said he was a nuisance and embarrassment to the community.
