Speaking before the Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o chaired Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee, Mutua pledged to expose those behind massive land grabbing in Syokimau and Mavoko.

The buildings and land mishandled is worth Sh 960 million according to the report by Auditor General Edward Ouko.

Govenor Mutua said, “This massive land grabbing that went on at Mavoko and Syokimau was perpetuated by individuals some of whom are presently elected politicians. The public parcels of land were dished out to individuals, title deed allotments issued and later on structures were built even in riparian areas.”

The governor also distanced his administration from the corruption and said it took place before his reign. Mutua further said this is one of the reasons his government is unable to fully serve Machakos residents.

However, nominated senator Martha Wangari directed Mutua to table the evidence under an oath.

“If you want to bring someone’s name, then it must be on oath and in evidence form so that we don’t get caught up in extraneous issues in this committee. Please submit whatever you are saying in writing so that we can admit it as part of evidence,” said senator Wangari.
