Machakos County Environment minister Margaret Muisyo in collaboration with the Multi-Touch international organization has planted over 300 trees at different grounds within Machakos in memory of the late Wangari Maathai.

Muisyo made impromptu visits to some Primary schools in Machakos town planting trees to commemorate the life of the late Maathai.

"There is a need to keep and conserve our environment. Trees play a big role in the making of rain as it is well known all over the World. We have decided to plant trees across different areas in Machakos," said Muisyo.

Muisyo promised to plant more trees every year as she seeks to create awareness to the public on the importance of conserving the environment and curbing deforestation.

Officials from the Multi-Touch International organization pledged to provide tree seedlings that will be planted in other constituencies within Machakos County.

Kenyans all over the country commemorated the life of the late Wangari Maathai who won an award globally for her concerted efforts in taking care of the environment by planting trees.
