Mango farmers from Miu and Muthetheni in Mwala sub-county have partnered with a private investor who will build a mango processing plant in the area and buy mangoes from the farmers.

The farmers who met in Muthetheni Wednesday met the Chinese investor. The farmers were very happy after securing a market for their produce.

Mango prices in the harvesting season are normally very low and farmers end up making losses since brokers exploit them and they end up selling grafted mangoes for amounts as low as 50 cents for every Mango.

Ukambani leaders have been accused of neglecting mango farmers unlike leaders from other regions who stand with their farmers. Makueni county last month purchased machines for their fruit factory which will also process mangoes in their season.

By setting up the plant in Muthetheni, the investor will open up the area and get jobs to locals while helping improve the local economy.
