The Ministry of Finance in Machakos County has released the 2015/2016 budget estimates worth Sh11.4 billion.

According to the chairman of the committee on finance in Machakos county assembly Isaac Mwinde, the estimates are high and will be trimmed to Sh8.6 billion to meet the constitution threshold.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday outside the county assembly buildings, Mwinde said development has been allocated Sh5.3 billion, and Sh6 billion has been allocated to recurrent expenditure.

Water, transport and health ministries will get the lion’s share of the budget.

“The ministry of health and emergent services, which is arguably the biggest ministry has been allocated Sh2.394 billion, ministry of roads, transport, public works and housing has been allocate Sh1.086 billion,” said Mwinde.

The chairman also said that the ministry of water, irrigation and sanitation has been allocated Sh2.619 billion, adding that it will be the ministry which will be well funded in the 2015/2016 budget.

The county assembly is expected to reduce the budget estimates before passing it.

Sh6.5 billion of the budget is expected to come from the central government, and Sh2.3 billion will be from the tax collected by the county government.

According to recent research, Machakos County did well in terms of finance management, and it was rated top among the 47 counties.
