[Photo|Dr Alfred Mutua]Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua met with Dr. Ladisy Komba Chengula, Lead Agriculture Economist, World Bank Group and his team at his office where they discussed special funding for the county's Agriculture programme."Machakos County is getting approximately Sh1 billion to support the Kenya Climate-Smart Agriculture Project," said Mutua, on Wednesday.This includes improving water/soil management, promoting sustainable, community-driven rangeland management and improved access to quality livestock services, supporting the generation and dissemination of Agricultural Technologies, Innovations and Management Practices (TIMPs).It also includes enhancing access to quality agro-weather, climate, advisory and market information services among farmers for improved decision making.As part of this funding, Mutua said Machakos would undertake a major irrigation project utilizing either a dam or the waters of Athi River."Agriculture is key to my development Manifesto," he added.
